Job Description
Our client is an international supplier of enrichment services and fuel cycle products for the civil nuclear industry, serving utility customers worldwide who provide low carbon electricity through nuclear generation.  
 
Purpose of the job
  • The role of the Risk Analyst is to support the Senior Commercial Risk Manager with independent credit assessments of business proposals for commercial, treasury and operational transactions, reviewing the proposals and carrying out assessments. The role will ensure that counterparty due diligence and annual reviews are completed in a timely manner, quantitative risk measurement and modelling techniques are applied to transactions to ensure new commercial concepts, sales proposals and contracts are subject to an appropriate level of risk assessment.
  • Liaise with front office personnel to understand and help structure proposed transactions.
  • Help develop new methods to report portfolio position to senior management and prepare papers for committee meetings.
  • This role is a full-time, permanent role and requires a driven, self-starter mentality with the ability to communicate across functions and levels. 
Main responsibilities
 
Credit Risk
  • Undertake detailed annual counterparty credit analysis and complete periodic ad-hoc reviews of principally corporates, government entities or financial institutions, for new and existing clients.
  • Ongoing portfolio monitoring, identification and escalation of risk flags to senior management by:
  • Assist in running counterparty & market risk exposure by running regular reports in line with internal policies and risk appetite.
  • Analysing economic and market events and assessing their impact on the portfolio.
  • Ensuring systems contain accurate information.
  • Ensure the effective administration of the credit portfolio, monitoring of credit limits, reviewing documentation.
  • Liaising with other departments such as Compliance, Commercial, Legal, Finance to ensure deals have received the appropriate governance review.
  • Help improve the credit risk management framework and streamline processes where possible.
  • Propose credit terms incorporated into legal documentation, in particular sales contracts.
 
Market Risk
  • Develop a good understanding of the core products with the Uranium market, the fuel cycle and commodity markets in general. 
  • Responsible for calculating MtM exposures for transactions or counterparties on an adhoc basis. 
  • Application of quantitative techniques to monitor market risk position on treasury and commercial transactions (e.g. stress testing) 
  • Monitoring of market risk positions on commercial, treasury and operational transactions. 
  • Working closely with the Credit Risk teams to ensure trading risks and returns are fully understood, captured and challenged where necessary. 
  • Ensure market prices, forward curves and other key valuation metrics are accurate and updated daily. 
  • Ad Hoc projects as required to support the Risk team and other parts of the business to help to set up a culture of monitoring market risk. 
  • Recommended qualification to be obtained e.g. ICTF, ACCA or CFA
Qualifications
  • The successful candidate must hold a quantitative degree and be highly numerate, or have analytical experience
  • Risk, legal or accounting related qualifications and skills desirable.
  • Knowledge of the nuclear enrichment sector is beneficial but not essential.
  • An understanding of market risk preferred.
  • Knowledge of scorecards desirable. 
  • Ideally to have 1-3 years of experience working in an operational risk role, with experience within a trading, commodities or energy/utilities background. 
  • Excellent problem solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate to all levels of management including those from non-technical backgrounds.
  • Work independently and collaboratively.
  • Competent MS Office user, including Word/Excel/PowerPoint.
  • Visual Basic skills are highly desirable and ability to audit Excel models. 
  • Experience of SAP or other ERP systems desirable. 
  • Strong financial credit analysis and modelling skills with the ability to produce detailed, accurate and concise risk analysis. 
  • Ability to assess, present and explain complex transactions and new activities to management. 
  • Ability to assess the key credit, market, legal and operational risks of commodity transactions. 
  • Comfortable with manipulating large sets of data.
